A brief history of Loaves and Fishes:
In early 1993, community, business and religious leaders determined that there was a genuine need for food assistance in this area through records of school lunch assistance programs and direct requests for help to local churches, businesses, etc. In addition, the annual organized Project Agape Love (P.A.L.) was helping more than 1,000 people with food, clothes, and toys during the Christmas season and this indicated that there was a need for food assistance year round.
At that time, a group of volunteers sought to establish a food bank that would be available year round on specific days and hours at a designated location. Hence, Loaves and Fishes of South Houston County, Inc. evolved as a community-wide ecumenical project and a volunteer Board of Directors was appointed. Legal requirements have been met and the organization has been chartered as nonprofit and qualifies for 501(c) 3 status. The name was adopted based on the Biblical teaching of our Lord taking the few available loaves and fishes and feeding the multitudes.

Volunteers form the heart of Loaves and Fishes:
All of the service work done at Loaves and Fishes is undertaken by some very special people: our volunteers! They work tirelessly to assist those who come to Loaves and Fishes, giving of their time to stock shelves, take applications, fill orders, share a word of encouragement, and much, much more.
