Perry UM Men Meeting
Annual Christmas Party Extravaganza a
Great Success
United Methodist Men amd their wives and guests gathered on Monday, December 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for a great time of Christmas joy and fellowship. The UM Men of the church prepared the heavy (and delicious) hors D'oeuvres. After the meal we all enjoyed our guest speaker, "Dink" NeSmith, newspaper columnist and publisher. With great hilarity he shared his life expereinces and thoughts about what he understands as important in life. Thanks, Dink, for great stories and humor! A great evening was had by all!

OPERATION LEATHERNECK UPDATE
Operation Leatherneck is continuing to provide meaningful assistance to our troops in Afghanistan. Last month eleven boxes of personal care items and a large number of prepaid calling cards were sent to our troops. The report back to was one of continued gratitude and that the prepaid calling cards would greatly help them during the holidays. Many thanks to all who have contributed so generously to care for our troops who are enduring difficult duty a long way from home. They have consistently expressed their gratitude not only for the gifts themselves, but that we care about their situation there.
The Latest Letter From The Troops
Mr. Messer,
Thank you so much to you, the Perry United Methodist Men, and
supporting organizations for sending the care packages this month. I've
now received all 11 boxes for November.
All the Marines enjoyed getting the hygiene gear (that was a lot
of razors!) and are sure using the calling cards. I can't tell you how
grateful many of them were with getting the opportunity to call their
families with those phone cards.
Thank you again for all your support and I hope you all have a
wonderful holiday season!
Semper Fidelis,
Joel Whitmoyer
Next Leathernceck Shipment Goes Out December 3

2. Baked Goods (homemade and others)
3. Chocolate candy (of all kinds)

December 1 is next week!
Due to the wonderful generosity of people of Perry United Methodist Church, support for the most recent effort for our Marines in Afghanistan again exceeded expectations. On September 30, 23 boxes of baked goods, powdered drink mix and reading materials were shipped, following up the highly successful effort in August. This program will continue in October, and this month we are requesting donations of prepaid telephone calling cards, eye drops (Visine, etc) and personal hygiene items (disposable razors, deodorant, body powder, etc). Our efforts to date have been greatly appreciated by the Marines and their attached allied forces, as evidenced by the numerous thank you letters that we have received. Cash donations to PUMC Methodist Men are greatly appreciated, and will be used to purchase additional items or pay shipping charges. Again, thanks to everyone who has supported this effort.

Inspiring Letter From a "Brit" Who Serves With Our Marines In Afghanistan
Perry UMC Task Force Leatherneck
Letters from the Front
Dear Perry United Methodist Church Community,
Thank you so much for your very generous care packages which arrived yesterday. I have to confess to not being either American or a Marine - but although I wear a uniform of the Royal Navy - my heart is with the U.S. Marine Corps! It may sound old fashioned, but they have great virtues; humility; courage; honour and integrity. The Marines have it all in abundance. They are also kind enough to share, and your packages are but one example of that. It is a privilege to be in a team where there are so many good men and women. One day, when I am an old man, I will reflect on these days and remember the U.S. Marines; particularly their faith, which not only gives them courage, but gives them pride, and a clear sense of purpose. Thank you too for supporting them (us) all - simply knowing that someone somewhere has spent the time and effort to put these boxes together, and saying a quiet prayer now again, is worth more than you would ever imagine.
Thank you!

Task Force Leatherneck Update!
Church Family Response Is Tremendous!
Help For Our Soldiers Serving in Afghanistan Is Underway!
The Perry United Methodist Men have undertaken a project, “Task Force Leatherneck,” to provide various “in demand” items to a Marine Corps unit and Wounded Warrior Barracks in Afghanistan. These items will assist them, comfort them, and support them as they go about the difficult task of providing security in that remote area. The UMM have set a goal of sending ten boxes of items to the Marines each month. We are coordinating this project through Master Sergeant Joel Whitmoyer, son-in-law of Skip and Betty Dawkins, Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Intelligence Unit, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force. Our personal contact with him will allow us to distribute the items we send to the Marines serving in a very hostile field environment.
The invitation from the UMM to the church to assist with providing supplies has been overwhelming; thank you for your caring and generous support of this project. Task Force Leatherneck will continue into the months ahead and your participation is cordially solicited. Our men and women serving in Afghanistan are blessed through your gifts and concern for them!
Our first boxes will be sent this month, September. We will send only three items per month so distribution in Afghanistan can be done easily. Below are listed the items we will be sending in October and November. Boxes for your donations will be in the Sunday School hallways, the Narthex, and the Church Office. Your donations are cordially welcomed. If you would prefer to make a cash donation to support purchase of these items, you may make checks payable to Perry United Methodist Men.
Items for October
Powered drink Mix (individual servings)
Baked goods (individual servings)
Comic books
Items for November
Eye drops
Power Bars
Phone Calling Cards
On behalf of the troops serving in Afghanistan, thank you for your caring and loving support.
